Upcoming events in August

Please be sure you try to make next Sunday, August 3rd. Of course that is Men’s Breakfast morning, and all men in our church family and guests are encouraged to come and enjoy a home cooked breakfast, and great fellowship and devotion.

The worship service will feature Ann Clemmer, who will give us a presentation on their mission work in South Sudan. Sudan is a very unstable place, and the entire region is not friendly to Christians right now, so Ann’s story will be challenging and inspirational.

Then after the worship service, the Providence cooks swing into action with a Fried Chicken and pot luck luncheon at the Social Hall. This will be an opportunity for some one on one time with Ann and her family, and as always a time for good fellowship within our church family.

On August 10, at 4PM (1600), PKIA is having a pool party for the Providence and Ebenezer UMC kids at Mike and Deedee’s house. Hot dogs and chips will be served along with good times for all.

Crime Watch Update

Last Thursday, the 5th, the Neighborhood Crime watch got together for the monthly meeting. In the meeting a local sign maker showed us a prototype of a sign just like the group had wanted. The price for each sign will be $42, which is by far the lowest quote we have gotten.  In addition they are donating four signs to the cause.

Several folks are investigating getting the breakaway poles for the signs donated from a number of government agencies. If we can not get sufficient poles, it may be that the group will have to pay for a few at about $25 each.

At this point, the fund for the signs has about $150 in it. As you know, Providence UMC is administering the fund, so if you would like to donate, please make a check to Providence, and make a note on the check that it is for crime watch. We also discussed the option of an individual being able to purchase an individual sign if that person wished to have one near his or her home.

The next meeting will be at 7pm at the fire house on July 10, 2014. Normally the meetings are on the first Thursday, but in July the first Thursday is the day before the 4th of July. Not a good choice.
