Providence Community Crime Watch

The Providence Community Crime Watch is getting going. This months meeting was held at the Providence Fire Department and had about fifteen in attendance. The meetings are now scheduled for the first Thursday of the month and ALL members of this community are encouraged to attend and participate. This is YOUR crime watch. The goal is to communicate and cooperate to reduce crime in our neighborhood below the already low rate.

The group talked at some length about putting Neighborhood Crime Watch signs at prominent road intersections at the edges of and within the community, which was essentially defined as the service area of the Fire Department.

Approximately fourteen signs will be needed to cover the area. This is representative of the type of sign to be placed in the community.

Since this is a community effort, we are asking as many of the citizens as are willing to do so, to contribute to a fund to reach a goal of $1,000 to pay for the signs and the poles for the signs. The Providence UMC has volunteered to be the clearing house for the funds, so if you can contribute, please make your check out to the church, and make a note that it is for the Crime Watch Fund Drive. Please call Terry Martin at 496-1122 if you have any questions.

All of us will benefit from this, and the benefits will only grow as our community comes together to watch each others backs. I know that in the coming months the leadership of the group will be able to have some instructive meetings to help us all be better observers of our local situation.
